Custom DotNetNuke skins

Skin (in DotNetNuke terminology) is a template control that defines the overall look for all pages within web site. Skins often include such elements as menu, site logo and search box. They also specify the positions and sizes of content panes. When DotNetNuke builds a real page it takes the skin control and fills its content panes with appropriate content.

At the file system level a skin is stored in a folder [DNN]/Portals/[Portal]/Skins/[Skin name]. Skin folder usually contains a skin control (*.ascx file) and a skin style sheet (*.css file). Skin control describes the parts of a skin including content panes and their layout, whereas skin style contains the definition for fonts, sizes, colors etc.

You may easily modify skin files and see the changes to the web site. For example “.Normal” style in the skin style sheet defines standard font settings.

.Normal{font-family:Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,san-serif; font-size:14px; font-weight:normal; }

Skin used for this site is a modified version of “XDShareMe” skin by Nina Meiers ( You may download it free from downloads section of my website. Or just click here for fast access.
